Well - here's how I've always done it. Download a free program called "media preview" and then install it. Open the program and check the boxes for .mkv and .flv save/close. Now all your thumbnails should show

I fixed it. I used latest version of revo uninstaller and completely uninstalled vlc and handbrake in aggressive mode - ran ccleaner, then rebooted - downloaded new vlc and new handbrake - and now it works fine. The first time I uninstalled both of them I just used the regular control panel windows ...
