I am having a lot of trouble opening up any files from any other hard drives in VLC. Elsewhere, a fix was posted to allow running VLC as root (hexedit /usr/bin/vlc, replace geteuid with getppid), but vlc is not in /usr/bin anymore. I tried installing vlc via command line but I get a "broken pac...

Bingo! It took me awhile to see where to change the encoding in VLC, but for my tag editor (I use kid3-qt), it was clear as can be.
