Thanks for chipping in with ideas. I tried some of them and have had some luck going for the 'no disc menu' option. Setting Title/Chapter didn't work for me - still just get episode one. Playing vob files works a little bit - the image is not clean - lagging, pixellated and the sound is not synced. ...
