Wow, thanks for such a quick response! I turned off the time stretching in the audio preferences; restarted VLC a few times and got it to work perfectly with a few different types of files. I was able to disable the shell integration on reinstall. In the install options, it's called CONTEXT MENUS. I couldn't have succeeded without dionoea's detailed description and help on this matter! Thanks much. All the best, Flash Durham, NC (USA) PS: Thanx to you, too, Ares for actually helping.
