Re: Can I rollback to 2.2.8 in Ubuntu 18.04?

Of course Ubuntu is not going out of its way to make it easy to install an old unsupported software version with security issues. Why would they confuse regular users with a choice of version between the current supported version or an old unsupported buggy one? The problem is it is the latest vers...

Re: Can I rollback to 2.2.8 in Ubuntu 18.04?

In principles, you can uninstall the package, temporarily switch your Debian repository to Ubuntu 16.04, then reinstall. It's likely to fail due to conflicts. The other option is to build from sources. As I said, I'm a Linux newbie. I don't have a clue how to do what you posted. From my experience,...

Can I rollback to 2.2.8 in Ubuntu 18.04?

When I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 it automatically installed version 3.0.8. I did have 2.2.4 in 16.04. I still use 2.2.8 on my Windows 8.1 machine. I had tried upgrading on it & nothing above Weatherwax was compatible with my video driver. I had no problem downgrading back. I am having numerous pr...

Re: Upgaded to Ubuntu 18.04, want to go back to VLC 2.2.2

Rémi Denis-Courmont VLC has been updated. If I wanted to pin it & keep 2.2.2, I would have had to do that BEFORE my upgrade from 16.04 t0 18.04. I'm already upgraded. It was a struggle to get 18.04 working & I have already made enough tweaks to it that starting over is just not an option. In...

Re: Upgaded to Ubuntu 18.04, want to go back to VLC 2.2.2

You did not even finish reading the first paragraph, did you? Yes I did. The first paragraph says "Pinning is useful if you want only some things from a newer version of Ubuntu". The 2nd paragraph says "Pinning is a process that allows you to remain on a stable release of Ubuntu (or ...

Re: Upgaded to Ubuntu 18.04, want to go back to VLC 2.2.2

From what I'm reading from that link, it looks like the opposite of what I want. It is saying you can pull a program from a newer version to an older possibly more stable version of Linux. I want my version from 16.04 on my 18.04. I didn't see anything there that appeared to do what I want. Also fro...

Re: Upgaded to Ubuntu 18.04, want to go back to VLC 2.2.2

Rémi Denis-Courmont I have no Idea what you are talking about pinning VLC. Are saying I would have to take an old 16.04 clone & start the whole upgrade over? As I said, I'm a Linux newbie & it was a real pain doing the upgrade. After you run the upgrade command at the end it tells you things...

Upgaded to Ubuntu 18.04, want to go back to VLC 2.2.2

When I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 it also changed VLC to 3.3.8. When I was using 16.04 I was more than happy with VLC 2.2.2. I won't go into detail, but there are things I don't like about it the new version. On my Windows machine I'm using 2.2.8 & that is good too. I read that the Linux version o...

Re: Option to display FILE NAMES instead of META TAGS

Four pages of people wanting the same as me since the thread began in June 2014.. How hard could it be to give an option to ignore the metadata? I've seen entire seasons where the file names were correct but every episode has the same metadata for episode 01. Even when there is no metadata, VLC will...

Disabling right click menu on screen

I am using version 2.2.2 in Ubuntu 16.04. When I was using Windows before, I was able to eliminate the right click menu on screen altogether. You no longer even see the cursor over the video & right click does nothing. I often watch in bed & I got tired of accidentally leaning on the mouse &...

Re: Ubuntu updates uninstalled VLC??!!

I'm fairly new to Ubuntu but my son set it up. I have been using VLC and have had absolutely no problems with it. In fact it seems to have a smoother picture than in Windows. It plays every type of video file, even HEVC. I have seen updates for it before when I clicked system updates. I'm still wait...

Ubuntu updates uninstalled VLC??!!

I'm new to Linux and to tell the truth a lot of it is above my skill level. My son is a programing genius and he writes scripts for a lot of things. All I have to do is click shortcuts he makes. I am using Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS. I took Windows 8 offline because they are blocking security patches for 7t...

Re: Option to display FILE NAMES instead of META TAGS

You can also do that with a program like MKVtoolnix but that is not the point. It's a hassle to go though every file to delete metadata. Even if you do remove it the playlist still won't show the full filename. If there is an episode title they don't show it. They will shorten it to "TV Show S0...

Option to resume previous playback too short.

I have noticed when I bring the last video I had not finished watching before it will ask me something like"Do you want to resume playback where you were before"? Sometimes this feature would be great but I have never been able to get the mouse to it before it is gone. I had a power outage...

Re: Option to display FILE NAMES instead of META TAGS

... AND show the entire file name. ... You can eliminate "filename.luac" script file in VLC. https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=120417&start=20#p420059 It looks like all that does is eliminate the dots in the filename. The dots don't bother me. I'm only annoyed that th...

Re: Option to display FILE NAMES instead of META TAGS

One would think we were dealing with M$. Don't even begin to compare VideoLan to Microshaft! VLC is a free program that despite some relatively minor irritating things is still the best player available. These guys are in it because they enjoy developing software, not to get rich. Sure, they...

Re: Option to display FILE NAMES instead of META TAGS

Doesn't work in Win7. The details tab just displays the info w/ no provision to edit anything. I don't recall seeing any of these files that are read only. That never worked for me either. There is a great free program called MKVToolNix that is very useful for many things that will let you either d...

Re: Option to display FILE NAMES instead of META TAGS

Re: Option to display FILE NAMES instead of META TAGS

I tried some of the suggestions and found another partial solution that does work. Unchecking the parse box which then shows the full filename in the playlist until the file is played. (but no duration) Under Input/Codecs, (scroll all the way down on the right) Change title according to current medi...

Re: Option to display FILE NAMES instead of META TAGS

I would like to have the playlist to not show the meta tag AND show the entire file name. Even when there is no meta title VLC shortens the file name to only show the program name and episode number. Often there is information in the file name like the episode title and audio info. I have unchecked ...
