Re: HDR movies too dark

I expect tone mapping. No HDR in Windows. There's definitely HDR tone mapping. This is how it looks on older VLC versions before you introduced HDR->SDR.

HDR movies too dark

HDR movies are too dark. Where can i set the nit? Changing the Brightness in Adjustments and Effects will make the picture look better but that is done in software which defeats the point of hardware decoding (high cpu usage + dropped frames when active). Using vlc-4.0.0-20190104-0831-dev-win64 VLC ...

I don't think they ever will get 3.0 back to the quality of 2.2.5. Only thing that is better in 3.0 is HEVC hardware decoding. So many things doesn't work correctly. No Split Rar support. What have you guys done to remove so much file support in 3.0? Can't get Quicktime files to work in 3.0 either. Works fine in 2.2.5

ts/m2ts container only supports PGS subtitles. Remux into another container. MKV for example (using MKVToolNix) has support for ASS / SRT / SUB.

It's hardware decoding.
If i check Disk usage it's reading at 100MB/sec when seeking. Is it reading from the beginning of the file everytime and not from the seek location?

Try VLC 3.0.0 nightly build . And set it to use DXVA: Tools -> Preferences -> Video Output = Automatic Tools -> Preferences -> Input/Codecs Hardware accelerated decoding = DXVA 2.0 Then save, exit and restart VLC. That's how we have it already. I'm on new Kaby Lake i7 7700K and GTX 1070 (both suppo...

Re: 4K HDR movies: slow, lagging, gray artifacts

Well my processor doesn't have HEVC hardware acceleration but my GPU does. Maybe VLC is trying to use DXVA on the processor? If my logs doesn't show anything about hw acceleration there must be something wrong in VLC. MPC with LAV Splitter plays it fine.
