Folks,
Just a quick note to say that Oracle has just released a new JRE version, 8u371. I've updated to it and it appears to work OK with Blu-Ray Java (BDJ) menus.
Thanks for the tip Mr Wolf! :D Although you don't see the actual title, at least you can access the content. Helps a lot. As for the incompatibility between VLC and recent JRE versions, I direct your attention to this post https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=159876&p=533546#p5335...
I'd like to share a long-standing issue I've had with BD support in VLC. I've searched the forum but haven't found any mention of this issue so I'll document it here. I've found that with some BD+ discs (with BD-Java-based menus) the main disc menu will not activate! The main program content will pl...
Yep, was just notified about 3.0.18 this morning when I started up VLC. I allowed the update to proceed, installed the latest JRE update (jre-8u351) and, you're absolutely correct! BD menus now working fine without crashing VLC.
Thanks to the maintenance team for sorting this one out.
Oracle released JRE update (jre-8u351) during October. This version also crashes VLC so, AFAIK, jre-8u321 remains the last release that allows BDs to be played. I had a thought that possibly there's a Java setting that may allow VLC access? Maybe something in security settings? Any Java run-time whi...
An issue I've noticed over a number of version and is apparent in the current version (3.0.17.4 Vetinari). When continuing a viewing of a DVD (or DVD .iso file), a "Continue?" menu bar appears at the top of the main VLC window. The window height is adjusted to allow for the menu bar's heig...
Oracle have released another JRE update (jre-8u341). Sadly, after trying it on my WIndows 11 PC, I have to report that it appears that Oracle still has not addressed the issue that causes VLC to crash when attempting to load a BD (at least a .iso BD image file in my own case). So again I've reverted...
Oracle just released a JRE update (jre-8u333). After trying it, it appears that they haven't yet fixed the bug the causes VLC to crash when Blu-ray menus are enabled. So I've gone back to jre-8u321 (the last known version to run OK) for the moment. I tried running with Blu-ray menus disabled in VLC ...
A quick update on the BD-J menu issue. I'd just cleaned up the programs that are installed on my Windows 10 desktop and unfortunately broke the BD-J menu support in VLC. It took a little while to work out what I'd done. I use the 64-bit version of VLC and I'd mistakenly removed the 64-bit version of...
Much as I love VLC, the best way to play Optical Media on PC is to buy PowerDVD Ultra -- this works flawlessly. Yeah, know what you mean I just had that exact issue with 'Cloud Atlas'. My backup is to use the DVDFab viewer (which worked annoyingly). Yeah, I know it's not free but, hey, if you need ...
By 'windowed' mode I just mean it's not full screen so that you are able to change the size of the VLC window making sure it doesn't exceed the screen's dimensions.
Hi, do you have the screens configured as 'extended desktop'? I've noticed that the if the window size exceeds the capabilities of one or the other screens it can cause issues. Try going back to 'windowed' mode and reducing the size, then try to drag the window to the other screen and then try to go...
I just installed VLC 3.0.7.1. on Windows 10. I ripped one of my bluray discs using MakeMKV's "backup" feature. That seems to retain all the original file system from the BD onto a HD, minus encrypted stuff. I then tried to open the BD using VLC's Open Disc feature, being sure to select Bl...
I'd just like to confirm that as of v3.0.6 the navigation keys work as you said. (The mouse clicks, also as you said, do not work but, IMO, that's not such a big deal 8) ) BTW, I have installed the latest Java update - if that matters. Also BTW, I confirmed this on a 'Game of Thrones' season 7 ISO (...
I meant to add one additional comment. As you've pointed out, there are some ethical 'grey' areas about providing a solution to defeat copy protection - even if you're only doing it for your own library and have no intention of doing it for commercial gain. So I think the VideoLAN organization is ri...
6) Ripping to me is to copy the whole DVD / blu-ray content (folders and files) with protection removed on the hard disk, for example with DVDFab. So, you make an iso from DVD / blu-ray, but untouched, with files still protected? I think (this works for sure with DVDs) you can directly open the iso...
Mr Wolf, Sounds like you're set up well (except for the issues ;-) ) As for the BD ISO images I use, I think the feature to play BD ISO images natively was added to VLC 3. Prior to that VLC needed to mount the image as a virtual disc. So now both DVD and BD images play natively, which is great for m...
Some observations. 1. My 'C:\Users\Your name\AppData\Roaming\AACS' folder does not have a 'vm0' folder so I'm wondering if it's necessary in order to accommodate AACS copy protection (provided, of course, you're using a key discovery tool like FindVUK or DVDFab) 2. As far as I can tell (by using Fin...
3.0.5 is not treating you well is it :( I don't seem to be experiencing the same issues. Apart from the menu support issue, 3.0.5 seems to handling my BD images (ISOs) OK both with and without menus. Perhaps it's time to try uninstalling VLC completely and starting again with a clean slate? Perhaps ...
Good thought but, sadly, no change to the behaviour after creating a new ISO copy with 'country code' removed. On reflection, it's probably not surprising. Isn't 'country code' a DVD thing? I thought BDs only use 'region code'. At any rate, the menu sequence still does not show. While I tried your s...
No. I'll give it a go and let you know. Update: Tried 3.0.5. Other BDs (ISOs) play as before. Same experience with the problem BD (ISO) - VLC does not play menu sequence. Forgot to mention in the original post. I've a feeling the issue has something to do with the way VLC handles region-coded BDs. F...
One more thing: I actually resolved one random failing disc by turning off bluray menus here: http://i.imgur.com/yvldeTd.jpg. No reason at all that ought to help, but could try it since it inexplicably fixed one of my issues. There appears to be quite a mix of issues in this post so I'll try to be ...
