Re: Just updated to Fedora 25 and VLC plays audio only

@ollybain: I am not sure where you're headed with this. If you don't like VLC 3.0.0 on Fedora, your best bet is to get back to F23 or change your distribution to something else. RPMFusion guys don't have a good way to build VLC 2.2.4 on F24/25. I am writing this from my experience of having filed a ...

Re: Just updated to Fedora 25 and VLC plays audio only

There is no way to get it. We discussed this in Fedora24 days; the issue is RPMFusion guys putting ffmpeg-3.x which doesn't build with VLC 2.2.4. It's really no one's fault - given the bleeding edge nature of Fedora, I can't blame RPMFusion guys to bundle new ffmpeg with it. They should not stick wi...

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

Great, thank you. That's all I wanted investigated, really.

It's not the difficulty of finding answers; the real value comes from VLC devs confirming the matter, instead of some user running some experiment and arriving at some answer.

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

I don't understand your question. Do you really expect ordinary users to download the source, run configure and debug the buildability of VLC 2.2.x with FFmpeg 3.0?
Why is it unreasonable to ask VLC devs to confirm this information in this forum? It seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

Report vlc problems for fedora packaging on http://rpmfusion.org/ReportingBugs PS: I agree with you, that the last update was a disaster, but now the previous update (Aug. 5, 2016) is again available. I already did...as already mentioned in this thread, RPMFusion packaged vlc-3.0.0 because they pac...

Could anyone from VLC devs chime in on this?

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

As I said, the reason why vlc-3.0.0 came about was because RPMFusion built ffmpeg 3.x.x which didn't work with VLC 2.2.4. The question is, whether VLC 2.2.4 could actually be made to work with ffmpeg 3.x. It's not uncommon for an application to cap dependency versions to a particular major version (...

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

So I asked the RPMFusion guys why they included bleeding-edge 3.0.0 VLC in their repository: https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4185 It was done so because the packager of ffmpeg (also from RPMFusion) bundled ffmpeg-3.x.x, which VLC 2.2.4 doesn't build with. Given that ffpmeg 3.x.x has b...

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

rpmfusion + VLC? They do. See the date of this Fedora 23 VLC package release, which is quite recent, even though the OS came out a while ago: http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/releases/23/Everything/x86_64/os/repoview/vlc.html However, rpmfusion is just a packager of VLC. Whatever bugs in 3...

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

For me, missing out on frame-by-frame isn't serious enough to go back to Fedora 23 just yet. However, going forward I'm somewhat inclined to stick with odd-version releases and skipping even releases. 6-mo release is very frequent to begin with, and I've encountered way too many issues than I'd like...

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

Usually they just pick one and that's the version you'd be stuck with for the duration of a Fedora release (6 months). Not sure why they chose 3.0.0 for Fedora 24, though. http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/releases/24/Everything/x86_64/os/repoview/vlc.html Let me see if I can bring this thr...

Re: Fedora 24 vlc 3.0.0 m3u URLs not encoded

VLC 3.0.0 seems unstable still and I don't understand why rpmfusion folks decided to put it in the Fedora 24 repository when videolan.org site recommends 2.2.4. Is there a way to install 2.2.4 on Fedora 24 at this time? I'm somewhat inclined to grab RPMs from Fedora 23 and see what happens, though I...

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

I have something similar as well, where when going frame by frame, the video stops loading properly, especially after jumping around the movie. I'm not too pleased by rpmfusion's decision to jump to 3.0.0-git Vetinari version, which I believe is super-new and still unstable. It would have been nice ...
