Re: VLC starts but no window.

Hmm. It's now working on the two PCs here, so I assume some packaging is being done better?

Re: Just updated to Fedora 25 and VLC plays audio only

What is the best way to report problems in these cases? The second computer throws up lots of errors about negative window sizes and refuses to start, while here on this one it seems to be memory related. Messing with the playlist will crash it, as will doing anything else intensive. I strongly susp...

Re: Just updated to Fedora 25 and VLC plays audio only

That makes sense. I tried to install Debian on the second computer, where vlc fails to work completely, but messed up the bootloader. I'll have another go. Handbrake is very definitely slower as well. It seems like they really messed up by downplaying such a flagship application. However, since this...

Re: Just updated to Fedora 25 and VLC plays audio only

Ah. So we just wait for VLC 3 and FFMPEG 3 to eventually become stable. I was just hoping there would be some way. Are there any good temp media players to cover until then? Which take screenshots? mplayer is very good but crashes when you try to take screenshots, even with the option turn on. Thank...

Re: VLC starts but no window.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to troll. And I've crossed threads, inexplicably. My second computer won't run vlc at all with Fedora 25. This computer has problems with crashing and unpredictable seizures. It seems that version 3 has many problems with Fedora 25 on these computers.

Ick. Trolling!

Re: VLC starts but no window.

It also crashed unpredictably, and falls apart completely if you even look at the playlist and dare to move things around.

Re: Just updated to Fedora 25 and VLC plays audio only

I'd recommend sticking with Fedora 23, which allows you to use the latest released version, VLC 2.2.4. There is no advantage in upgrading to Fedora 24 or Fedora 25 and you are forced to use the beta release VLC 3.0.0 on those releases. It would be nice if there was a way to uninstall VLC 3.0.0 from...

Re: VLC starts but no window.

I'm having this same problem (the originally posted problem), for the Fedora 25 I just clean installed. Following from the different problems for VLC on Fedora 24, this is getting rather silly. There are no previous versions that work! What kind of information is needed to work out what the computer...

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

I think they're writing from the point of view of volunteers who already have an awful lot to do, and who aren't the same people that did the Fedora bundling. However, I'm just guessing. This all operates on goodwill, after all.

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

Yes, that's the problem. The bundled VLC for Fedora 24 is not stable. It's very frustrating.

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

Well, it seems like a fait accompli. Hopefully it will be a less buggy vlc when I finally am forced to re-upgrade at the expiry of Fedora 23.

Is there a credible chance that 2.2.x might end up back in Fedora?

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

I have had a problem with an even numbered release in the past. I think that video not appearing for minutes is a bit of an issue, and then occasional jerkiness is an added irritant. Do they not usually even do bugfix versions?

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

Hmm. This, and the problems with LibreOffice, might be enough of a wedge to go back to Fedora 23. Six months of dodgy media playering is not ideal, but if it could actually be changed, then that would be excellent! It's strange to put an experimental release onto a stable distribution release, yes.

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

That's very unfortunate. Do they ever change their minds over which versions they make available?

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

If you leave things running for a few minutes, the video will either pop in, or will appear if you stop and start again. In either case, once the video is up you can rewind to the beginning and never have another problem as long as you don't close VLC. Hopefully, someone somewhere is working on it.

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

Yes, it's annoying. Something similar happened on a previous FEdora release for me but eventually got fixed. It may have been 22. It's the even numbered releases laughing at us?

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

I've tried. OpenGL is the default. I think it only happens when vlc starts up. It's curious.

Re: VLC and Fedora 24

It says '3.0.0-git Vetinari', and I've come to the conclusion that vlc is taking a long time to get going on startup, Record for longest time is about six minutes now. Memory related, perhaps?

VLC and Fedora 24

Hi there, I just installed Fedora 24 (LXDE edition) and VLC is behaving very strangely. The video often won't appear for more than a minute, while the sound is perfectly fine. When the video does finally show up, it's jerky. It was perfectly fine on F23, so I don't know what's going on. I've checked...
