I have rolled back VLC to the previous version and now the only allow one instance works so im going to call this a solution, maybe the next version will be more reliable but who knows,

Did you reset preferences?

certainly did, still no joy, another update came out last night and I was hoping that may of fixed the bug, but to no avail.

Since updating VLC on the 10th of June to version 2.2.4 on my windows 8 latop everytime i open a new video file despite the fact that I have the "Allow only one instance" and "Use only one instance when started from file manager" options checked VLC insists on creating a new wind...

I have the same problem, only since I updated a couple of days ago and the Allow only one instance check box is ticked, yet everytime I open a new media file and new instance of VLC runs
