The folks at sm player got it to work. If a dvd is screenshot, they save it to an error directory.

I use sm player. It's better than vlc. It will save the snapshot to the same location as the video.

Correct. I am not sure what your point is.

I would only need to use it for hard drives. Additionally another option would be to prompt the user for a location if it cannot write to the directory that is selected.

I use VLC snapshot very often. Would it be possible to change the snapshot loaction to the same directory as the movie it is playing. For example: When playing movie "xlawnmower" located in: D/mymovies/2016/moviexlawnmower Then save all snapshots to directory: D/mymovies/2016/moviexlawnmow...
