It will play the next file in the playlist. Anything not in the displayed playlist it does not know about.

I'm aware, but most modern video apps just find the next episode from file name without being in a playlist.
If this isn't the default behavior, is there a plugin?

I clicked the activation link sent to my email and it seemed to have worked, but when i tried logging in, i got an error, so i tried resetting my password and it said invalid username and email combination.

Am I missing something, or does VLC not automatically go to the next episode of something by file name?

I need to reset my password and remember my username which was dannymichel but i dont remember the email address i used. if it was xcingix@gmail.com that email address was deleted years ago
