Hi
Do you connect to your WD using DLNA?
If so, try to connect using SMB (Sharing).
Sometimes such disk boxes tries to convert the stream on the fly which isn't the case using SMB.

Same problem here with audiotrack selection of mkv's. I also use a 4th gen Apple TV and connected to my Synology using SMB.
