Is there a recommended procedure to backup my VLC custom preferences before upgrading the the latest release? I have not had good luck with this previously and would like to avoid resetting all of my custom preferences post-update.

I would like to fully disable VLC's options for full screen and wallpaper playback 'sizing' so that a VLC will always playback within a window on my desktop. Can this be done? If so, how?
