I may have solved it entirely by installing the most recent version of the Nahimic software and Realtek drivers taken from the MSI website. Apparently the latest revision was released... yesterday. And it looks like it solved the problem. At least for me. At least for now.

Found the culprit! At least in my case. It's the pre-installed and dedicated audio manager application Nahimic for MSI. Too bad, cause it was a decently useful app. As soon as I killed all its processes from the task manager everything went back to normal with VLC. I tried multiple times and so far ...

I am having the same identical issue and it's on my new MSI laptop (GT72). While I can't provide a sample or a log right now, I have read around and it seeems it ONLY happens on MSI laptopts, but with different chipsets and/or videocards, so the culprit should be one of the preinstalled bullshit pro...
