Still doesn't work for me. I've enabled Sharing of my Videos folder on my iMac, but VLC 1.0.2 on the Apple tv still shows an empty folder. I've restarted everything. Is there anything else I should try?

Thanks for the response. I was misled by a review that claimed VLC did do AFP.

Just downloaded VLC for Apple TV. When I started it, the Local Network screen only shows my Apple Airport wireless router and my MacBook Air. The iMac doesn't appear. I've tried rebooting all the devices (Apple TV, Airport, iMac) to no avail. Also, the MacBook and Airport show up as SMB devices. Sho...
