Make sure you have the same VLC version on both. If there is still no audio, then this is a configuration problem: VLC is probably muted, routed to an unconnected audio output, or such.

You can force fullscreen by default from preferences. VLC will reset to settings whenever the video dimensions or aspect ratio change.

VLC doesn't care if it has focus or not. It will not "take a dive" of its own. This can be a latency problem as Lotesdelere pointed out or otherwise the system restricting VLC resources.

This is usually a sign that your computer clock and audio clock are not in sync, most often because of bugged power management. How to fix this depends heavily on your hardware.

VLC has a maximum hard-coded resolution of 8192x8192 for the decoded content. There is no hard-coded restrictions on the window size.
