This is a bug. Album that doesn't exist should go away, at least when you try to play them.

I'm trying to do a Zune SmartDJ - like feature on my spare time. Maybe it will ship one day, but it's hard to do and the algorithm should be hosted on the cloud, tbh.

That's definitely something planned for upcoming versions of VLC. Thanks for the suggestion!
