I'm using VLC 3.0.14 and still seeing the problem on Catalina 10.15.7. I changed VLC's configuration using the GUI and confirmed that the change was saved to the config file. But after restarting the app, VLC still automatically resizes the window to full size (which overflows my window).

The following works for me on a Mac 10.9.5 and VLC 2.2.1: 1) Delete the file ~/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/ml.xspf This contains the list of all your songs.
