Re: Compiling VLC on Ubuntu 16.04LTS x86_64

I'm used to reproducible releases (in a professional environment, though). Without them, it wouldn't be safe to track/analyse/fix defects. I agree with you that (such) release management can become quite extensive. And I was just surprised there is none here. Since you asked, I don't "expect&qu...

Re: Compiling VLC on Ubuntu 16.04LTS x86_64

...the point is that the wiki instructions are not meant to build an old version. Well, the wiki speaks actually (besides the main branch) also of version 2.2.4. -- And, are you sure the wiki instructions will succeed with the main branch? In my experience, a main branch is quite vulnerable. To bui...

Re: Compiling VLC on Ubuntu 16.04LTS x86_64

Hi Rémi, thanks for your reply! Unfortunately, it confuses me even more. ;-) Do you tell -- that "you" didn't make a single Linux build before you released 2.2.4? -- or "you" build 2.2.4 on Linux just "somehow" (not reproducible) and left the rest to the distro managers...

Re: Compiling VLC on Ubuntu 16.04LTS x86_64

I managed to get also the GUI (QT) to compile. The complete build process is described below, to whom it may concern. (can't see how to attach files -- disabled by the forum's admin?) Still, the questions remains: How did you, the VideoLAN team, develop/build/test VLC 2.2.4 for Linux? There must be ...

Compiling VLC on Ubuntu 16.04LTS x86_64

Hi there, I'm trying for a while to build VLC 2.2.4 including the contrib packages. However, this appears to be quite difficult. Well, there is https://wiki.videolan.org/UnixCompile with instructions. It say, besides others... If your distribution does not provide the needed libraries or if you real...

X.265 and Aspect/Ratio

Hi there, It appears to me that VLC has problems to display the right aspect ratio for X.265 videos (MKV). I recoded a DVD-based X.264 content (720x424;2.42:1) with Handbrake. When started, VLC logs correctly (VLC_VERBOSE=2): display width=1024 display height=424 however, it shows a display width of...

Re: libdvdcss

Hi Jean-Baptiste Kempf, Thank you for the reply! Below you'll find my answers... (1) VLC fails to play "Alien" (1979, EAN: 4010232109088) when libdvdcss uses DVDCSS_METHOD=disc. Libdvdcss reports (DVDCSS_VERBOSE=2): ... cracking disc key ae:7d:2b:c0:b1 ... cracked disc key is 74:fb:c8:87:7...

libdvdcss

Hi folks, I had a look at the libdvdcss source code 1.3.99 (originally at 1.2.9, though that seems to be fairly old) and came up with a few inconsistencies (at least I think so). Maybe you want to have a look at them: (1) The implementation of the disc-key exploit (css.c:CrackDiscKey) appears to be ...
