I am seeing this also with VLC 0.9.8 on Mac OSX 10.5.5. The source material is ripped DVDs. If I just play the movie there is no freeze. Yeah it is sad that VLC still not fully backed into iOS platform. I am waiting anxiously to see when the complete package arrives.
