Hmm I may have been on the wrong track. After I set a lower resolution on the new account - vlc stopped rendering. I set the display resolution back to the (max) default - it worked again. For linux theres a package name "cpulimit", that allowed me cool my CPU down to 70°C (instead of 95°C) while loading a huge m3u playlist with remote files... (!)
