Ctrl+1 Hotkeys Don't Work w/ Non-Native Theme

Typically, the Ctrl+1 hotkey can be used to quickly reopen the last-played file. However, I found that this hotkey stops working if you switch to any non-native skin.

Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround?

Re: Skin: Snap To Edges vs Alt-F4?

Figured out a workaround for #2. Manually editing %appdata%\vlc\vlcrc & setting key-quit=Alt+F4 restored proper hotkey behavior.

Would still be curious to know if snapping can be enabled with the native skin, though.

Skin: Snap To Edges vs Alt-F4?

When using the native VLC skin, it doesn't "snap" to the edges of the screen. Since I didn't see anything related to this in the preferences, I assumed it just didn't support this functionality. However, upon switching to a 3rd party skin (https://www.deviantart.com/d4fmac/art/SUPER-BLACK-...

Re: Trac account problems

I'm having the same issue. For sure it's a trac account (i.e. I'm not trying to login to trac with a forum account - I've reported bugs on the trac in the past). It loads for several minutes, usually giving 504 gateway timeout. When it doesn't: *Trying to login says "Invalid username or passwor...

Re: Possible not to lock files?

Since this hasn't gotten much attention since I posted it >3 years ago, I posted this as a suggestion on the Trac (https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/19700#ticket). Fingers crossed! :)

It isn't Microsoft - it's a Synology NAS.

Re: Possible not to lock files?

WMP may be tracking the file based on it's physical location on the HDD, not on the name/directory structure. Even if you delete it, the file is still there until it's overwritten by other data. And if you rename it, the file is still in the same physical location on the disk. It works on network d...

Re: Possible not to lock files?

Well, if you delete it and it still plays, then the only possibility is my first suggestion, that it loads the entire file into memory. That really isn't the only possibility, because again, it can't possibly be downloading 10 gigs of data over a wifi connection in a fraction of a second (to a syst...

Re: Possible not to lock files?

Right, of course. But again - that doesn't explain how you can immediately rename (or even delete) the source file, and it will still play through to the very end.

Re: Possible not to lock files?

While I don't know what the answer is for certain, my educated guess would be that WMP probably loads the file into memory, then leaves the original file alone afterwards. That's the only way I can see that this would be possible. I really don't think that's it; it couldn't possibly load the entire...

Re: Possible not to lock files?

I am too interested in implementing that Windows Media Player feature in VLC. Have you found out how WMP keeps file unlocked while playing it? I am searching for that answer on the internet for days now without success. :( If you do figure it out, please let me know. Since it's been a full year &am...

Re: Subtitles Track 1 by default for MTS files

Now there's a step in the right direction! If I create a shortcut to VLC to launch it with that command-line parameter, then explicitly open the file from within VLC, it does indeed launch with the subtitle enabled :) However, how can I just configure it to *always* open with the subtitles enabled (...

Re: Horrible Video When Playing DVDs (jerky/blocky)

I'm running Windows 7, so I thought for sure that won't be it - but lo-and-behold, turning off DirectX Video Acceleration fixed it!! Nice find, thanks so much :) (I'd note to the developers, it'd be nice if "auto" would detect these issues and disable acceleration accordingly. Seems like t...

Re: Horrible Video When Playing DVDs (jerky/blocky)

As described, the issue applies to DVDs as well as VOB files. Converting some VOB files to another format doesn't address the issue that VLC is unable to play DVDs on my system.

Horrible Video When Playing DVDs (jerky/blocky)

Playing DVDs in VLC always seems to yield awful video quality; I've posted a sample video below, but it would best be described as EXTREMELY "blocky." I don't mean blocky as in minor pixelation - I mean as in giant chunks of the video look garbled. I've tried numerous DVDs, and they all se...

Possible not to lock files?

With Windows Media Player, I am able to rename files in Explorer while it's playing; with VLC, I am not (Explorer says the action cannot be completed because the file is open). I'm not sure how WMP is even able to continue allow the files to be manipulated while they're open in this way - but it's *...

Quicktime Movie Timestamps (from iPhone)?

After recording a video on an iPhone, the .MOV can be opened in Quicktime, and you can see the original timestamp via Window->Show Movie Properties (in the Annotations grid at the bottom). See here: http://screencast.com/t/9FTkPZMoHrf However, if you view the metadata in VLC, it does not seem to inc...

Re: Subtitles Track 1 by default for MTS files

Same issue here; my AVCHDs come from Panasonic, but I'm having the exact same problem. Often when sorting numerous files I find myself opening each one and repeatedly having to enable the timestamp subtitle track. It's very cumbersome. Is there no way to force it to default enabled (regardless of th...
