EDIT. I just tried. VLC 2.2.2 only read some fonts while VLC 2.2.1 can read any fonts (from an .ass subtitles file).

The font config cache is regenerated, which should be only needed once. Just wait until it continues playback. (The new VLC version will include a progress bar to make clear that the program is doing something useful here...) If you try to play the file the second time, it should start immediately....

Thanks it seems that the latest nightly no longer has this problem. However, the native full-screen mode doesn't work and subtitles can be seen strangely huge.
