Videolan doesn't follow "aliases" (drag'n drop links), but it does follow symbolic links created on the command line. So something like: ln -s /Volumes/MyExternalDisk/Videos /Users/yourname/Movies/extVideos should at least allow to see the folders inside a subfolder of "My Videos"...
