managed to get this out of the log, a bit more informative.

mpgatofixed32 error: libmad error: bad main_data_begin pointer main debug: playback too late (14000): flushing buffers

This is what the debugging log tells me. Pausing for over a minute triggers this response. Sadly, not very informative. ... status change: < play state: 3 >: Pause status change: < play state: 2 >: Play status change: < play state: 4 >: End status change: < play state: 4 >: End
