Just wanted to say that after hours of struggling to get my VLC to show videos in my TV connected to my monitor I found the answer I needed in this thread - thanks very much. Should attach it to every download of wonderful VLC.

Have been having problems with the video on files played from a data DVD+R - can correct these using the Advanced Gui settings as erbsen suggests - but cannot find a way to make these the permanent default settings which change back to the original default settings after each file. Am I missing some...
