I've also tried reverting to an earlier version of VLC. I uninstalled VLC 2.1.3 (64bit) version and installed 2.0.9 (32 bit) version wondering (though I have only the haziest understanding of these things ) whether 32bit v 64bit was a possible cause of the problem. Sad to say the error messages kept...

Thanks, but deleting preferences doesn't work. You say you had a problem: was it the same one as described here, or something different?

Yes, the files play ok. You just have to keeping clearing all the error messages, which is a chore.

I posted a question on Apple support and got this reply: " The OpenGL version is dependent on video hardware, not OS version. I think VLC is assuming otherwise and reporting that error when it finds Mavericks with OpenGL 3.3 instead of OpenGL 4.1." Which is a bit out of my depth - but perh...

I'm having the same problem - but it only happens with VLC, not with other players such as Quicktime or MPEG Streamclip. I have tried the various suggestions made in this forum but to no avail. I am using an iMac (mid-2007) with 2.4 Ghz Intel core 2 duo processor with 4GB RAM running OS 10.9.1 Maver...
