I just uninstalled 2.1.2 and downloaded/installed 2.1.1 and I am back up and running on Windows 8.1 64-bit. Here's the link to download 2.1.1 again for your 64-bit OS http://download.videolan.org/videolan/v ... -win64.exe.

Yup ...I just uninstalled 2.1.2 and downloaded/installed 2.1.1 and I am back up and running on Windows 8.1 64-bit

I received the same error. VLC was working just fine on Windows 8.1. I recently installed an update for VLC and that is when I got this problem.
