I'm facing the same issue on 3.0.8 / Linux (Ubuntu and Gentoo) but only on wireless machine.
I got another one (Gentoo again) which is wired and it can detect my Gerbera server.

Ps: I don't think it's a routing issue as my laptop can see all avahi targets

So, unfortunately, it was only a mirage.
It worked just after the update (so on the 6th), but everything is gone after nightly VLC repo refresh removed anything and my SD got unchecked.
So for me, this refreshing procedure is the culpit.

My phone upgraded to 3.1.4 and it seems my music is back
I'll wait for some days before closing the ticket.

By the way, any chances to have IceCast on Android ?

I did it yesterday and when I restarted VLC, it did scan the SD : so I got everything. But this morning, everything is lost again : only the single MP3 I have on my phone internal storage is visible. More, I did try as well to add this SD using the préférence. But it seems it is never took in accoun...

Well, definitively, there is a bug : VLC did probably a refresh this night and I loose all music from my SD
I'll open a ticket.

I'm currently working on an add-on to control a GoPro from VLC.
The only thing I didn't find out is to tell VLC to play GoPro's live steaming : http://10.5.5.9:8080/live/amba.m3u8

Any tips welcome
