I have got a g5 quad and VLC drop a lot of frame. It's not a question of hardware.
It's about ffmpeg using multi core, and vlc too.

Buy a PC if you wanna play media, indeed HD.

it's simple FFmpeg the codec source is a big crap. And it's unable to play mkv with x264.
Don't buy a mac to play media.
I got a G5 quad 4Go quadro Fx4500 and VLC "display computer too slow".

Buy a PC if you want play well media like mkv.

What version of FFmpeg is using in the last nightly of VLC?

Every time i can i try the latest nightly version.
And i thank you a lot for your work.
But there is a problem in vlc to decode movie in 720/30p x264
i got a pc 3.0ghz and that work great with haali
x264 ffmpeg decoder is realy cpu intensive.

I understand. This sample are broken but they work great on 0.8.5.

I'll try to test the nightly version and report bug.

BTW. This is not a question of CPU core, i have got a quad and vlc only use one by one.

I just send in the folder incomming of your server a sample of Star Wars III in HD and add a txt file with the trouble.

and all my video in x264 doesnt work.

Are sure your video .ts are encode in h264. ts file are in mpeg-2

... and i have got a lot of trouble. It doesnt play HD video in x264.
i still got trouble to play movie in x264 HD (720/30p) (with 0.8.5) vlc crash and drop too many frames. I wish in newest version you can fixed that.
