2.1.4: Format strings not expanded

I've confirmed this in 2.1.4. Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows 7 32-bit. Any video file. " vlc-$N-$T- " in snapshot-prefix, upon shift-S (Video->Save snapshot), produces the literal string "vlc-$N-$T-2014-02-19-21h41m38s198.png" as a filename. Further, "C" formatting chara...

FLV audio stream level changing -

During the Mars Curiosity landing, I noticed drastic audio level changes while playing this FLV stream in VLC 2.03 Windows, but I was able to adjust volume on the fly to compensate.(from 70% level to 10% and back). - http://nasa-f.akamaihd.net/public_h264_700@54826 These volume changes did not seem ...

Belated thanks for the reply.
I chose to wait for 2.0.3, which solves my issue very well, and thanks to all for that, too.

VLC 2.01 not hw acc on display2?

Just upgraded from 1.1.9 to 2.0.1, WinXP SP3, 1.8GHz AMD Sempron (correction) HP Pavilion ze2000 laptop, and noticed that Codec: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1) files play using hardware acceleration on Screen1(main, 1024x768), but not on Screen2(1680x1050), where it seems to revert to software o...

Re: 200% is not loud enough

Are you sure you have correct speaker setup chosen? DVDs are usually too quiet only when downmixing is done incorrectly. What do you mean? The video is too quiet. It's not a matter of me setting something up incorrectly. It's only some videos, not all of them. Perhaps "speakers" wasn't in...

What does "STRG" mean? Did you mean Tools/ Preferences/ Show settings: All/ Interface/ Main interfaces/ Qt/ Allow the volume to be set to 400% / Save I agree that some adjustable "gain up" would be very nice , especially because so many files are recorded too low. Suggestions: - ...

Re: VLC 1.1.0 crashes when I close the video

This "white screen hang" (nonresponsive to keyboard or mouse, white screen, fullscreen OR 80% window size, on secondary monitor), at end of playback is still happening, ever since 1.0.x, continuing with 1.1.8. HP ZE2315US laptop, 1GB RAM, 1.8GHz Sempron, ATI Radeon Express 200M graphics(10...

Re: Santa hat icon?

Thank you. I sincerely think that you and I are both somehow right. I understand that VLC didn't do any copying, and I believe you that it didn't change its vlc.exe icon. But I did see all my media file file icons change to santa hats, and then not change back when VLC changed its own icon back. Som...

Re: Santa hat icon?

I am not part of the religion discussion, and have no interest in it, and I am not any sort of hater. I simply would like to know how to disable this feature: which lines of code to change or comment out. Though it was promised that VLC would "automatically change the icons back", it did n...

I've used VLC less than a year so I've not seen the "santa hat" icon before. Searching these forums, I see that it's been..."discussed" before and not fixed (i.e. not made optional) by the program's author. ... People don't donate to VLC anyway :D I would like to know how to dis...

Re: How to force Volume to Max 100% only ???

Hm. Dunno. No, there's no 100% hotkey.
But here's a bad idea: if set the Audio Step Size to 256, you can get to 100% with Ctrl-Down, Ctrl-Up.
This won't help you if you prefer to set volume with the keyboard or mousewheel. But if you use the mouse pointer to set volume, you're golden.

Re: How to force Volume to Max 100% only ???

Until 100% limit is implemented, you can control startup volume in two places: First, in Tools/Options Show Settings: check ALL. 1. To pick a fixed startup volume (0-1024 corresponds to 0%-100%): in Tools/ Options/ Audio - "Default Audio Volume" (overridden by (2)). 2. To save your last vo...

Re: AVI file is broken... BUT THEY ARE NOT BROKEN

To narrow the scope, I can verify one problem: Pentax K7 MJPEG .AVI movies are reported "broken." When the file is "repaired", the repair occurs (nearly instantly in 1.06 branch, 5 seconds in 1.05), then plays and ends normally. When not "repaired," plays only a few fra...

Re: The AVI file is broken... BUT THEY ARE NOT BROKEN

I get this problem with every video shot using a Pentax K-7 or Pentax K-x digital SLR. ... If I choose not to repair the video, VLC will show the first frame and then immediately stop playing.
See instructions above, specifically, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b. Look forward to your results.

Re: The AVI file is broken... BUT THEY ARE NOT BROKEN

1. You can help debugging by providing more debug info: a. Which OS, CPU, Mem/Disk(hard drive? flash?), VLC version (Help | About) b. Post direct links to example videos (short clips are better) which induce the symptom. Or post enough of the filename so that is uniquely identifiable for others to f...

Re: How to force Volume to Max 100% only ???

There are ways to avoid distortion within VLC. 1. Prevent VLC from permitting user adjustment of volume control > 200%: (edited: was 100%) In Tools | Preferences set Show Settings to All In interface | Main Interfaces | Qt | Uncheck Allow the volume to be set to 400% Save 2. In VLC Tools | Effects a...

The flash drive might be fake, and you've reached its _true_ capacity, as opposed to its _reported_ capacity.

Any [media files] issue seems to have been resolved silently on or before 1.03, released on October 31, 2009. Both 1.03 and 1.05 offer .mp3 in the "media files" extensions list. (Note: 1.05 has two unrelated minor playlist issues which may affect you, but are easily worked around http://fo...

VLC 1.05 Playlist - no keyboard-only multiselect

Win XP SP3 all updates. Updated to "1.05 Goldeneye". In the Qt interface Playlist window(Ctrl-L) Shift-Dn or Shift-Up can't select groups of more than 2 items - Shift-Arrow selects the current and the next, but deselects the previous, so only 2 items are selectable. Keyboard workaround: Sp...
