Re: Issues when "ripping" longer DVDs

Wow, this has opened up a huge can of worms. Numerous and various errors being thrown. [1st thing] Sometimes when streaming from the DVD to a file on disk I'll get like: "dvdread error: read failed for 1/4 blocks at 0x139" But I don't know how serious that is and I don't know if that read ...

Re: Any way to specify a *stop* chapter when converting DVDs

Thanks for the heads up mederi.
I suspect this might be an undocumented thing. (I know VLC are having documentation probs at the mo'.)

Re: Issues when "ripping" longer DVDs

Handbrake was recommended to me but seems to choke on any DVD I give it (I also couldn't compile it for my Linux).

Excluding pricey commercial software, VLC is the only thing so far that sorta kinda seems to work.

I'll try to post some logs from both convert time and playback time.

Thank you.

A :stop-chapter option for when streaming / converting?

When streaming, I can specify a :stop-time=xyz but I can't specify a :stop-chapter=xy It would be rather useful (for me at least!) to have this power. I appreciate I can specify the *start* chapter in the source URL (/DVD#titleNo:chapterNo) but to stop by chapter rather than time is nifty sometimes....

Re: VLC 2.1.0 does not see UPnP devices

Just upgraded to 2.1.0 and it's listing my UPNP servers, but never seems to load the libraries therein.
On 2.0.8 I used to have to wait a while for an arrow to appear next to the UPNP server name, but then I could click to get all the music and videos etc and everything worked.

Re: Any way to specify a *stop* chapter when converting DVDs

:stop-time=xyz seems to work.

I might do a feature request to support stop chapter as an option (:stop-chapter=7) or perhaps as part of the DVD source URL like DVD#1:1-7 ?

Whichever makes sense I suppose.

Thanks.

Re: Issues when "ripping" longer DVDs

I guess this isn't a DVD read issue because the same thing happens if I copy the DVD contents to hard disk and then stream by opening that folder (as a "disc").

(Unless copying to hard disk somehow also glitches the middle of the film?)

Re: copying DVDs

It's hard, and the interface is rather "scientific", but in a nutshell it's:

[a] File --> Convert/Save
or
File --> Stream

In both cases selecting the DVD disc as the source and a file on disk as the target.

Any way to specify a *stop* chapter when converting DVDs?

I'm converting some DVDs to mp4 files at the mo', and (for various reasons) I'm sorta considering cutting the films in two (using chapters). I see that when converting / streaming I can specify the *start* chapter of the title to record from, but this will then record from that chapter to the end of...

Issues when "ripping" longer DVDs

Hi guys, I've just realised that VLC can "rip" - or should I say "stream to file" ;-) - DVDs which I never knew and find to be pretty amazing! However, I'm having a particular issue when doing this on longer DVDs for example 100minute ish films. Basically, the encode completes an...
