Exactly, the same here. Haven't found a solution though, I tried turning off some features, even resetted VLC preferences, but no success. Any ideas?

Ah, glad to hear that! And what about Pulseaudio? Is this a bug from their side? (OSD works the opposite way ...)

The OSD shows the opposite state when muting sound on Ubuntu 13.10 with VLC 2.1.0 and Pulseaudio. On Alsa output it works fine, but I experienced a small delay, so I use Pulseaudio. When I mute the sound, the OSD shows 100% and when I turn the sound back ON, the OSD shows "Mute". :) Maybe ...
