Re: Trying To Stream Youtube Video

When I stream using VLC do I need to use my IP address and port number?

Are there any test streams that I can use to check the functionality of VLC?

Re: Trying To Stream Youtube Video

Thanks for responding Evidently some users of my OS (kubuntu) can stream videos from youtube using the same version of vlc (2.2.2) that I have. However, they have more up to date OS's (ver 16 vs my ver 14). Can you suggest how I can stream youtube videos using vlc? I note that I do not have youtube....

Re: Trying To Stream Youtube Video

UPDATE:

Hi,

I cannot stream Youtube videos with VLC.

I note errors.

I have looked at the folder: /usr/lib/vlc/playlist and note that I have youtube.luac, but not youtube.lua. Is this the source of my problem?

If so, where can I get the file? It is not in the kubuntu repo.

Thanks.

Re: VLC Stream Input

Would https cause an error?

Why is the link referred to as MRL and not URL?

Can I investigate the source of the error?

Thanks

VLC Stream Input

I am getting the message: VLC Stream Input Cannot be Opened.

Is this because the URL is https? If so, is there a solution?

I also note that the MRL is https://www........

Surely it should be URL, URI?

Thanks

Streaming

I use online tv (streamed), but have buffering problems.

Someone suggested using vlc to avoid the browser problems.

I pasted a video stream into vlc, under streaming, and received errors.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong.

Thanks

Capturing and saving stream

Sometimes, I would like to capture and save some stream that occur in webpages.

Can someone tell me the easiest way of using VLC to achieve this, and, in particular, how I can avoid the recording of adverts that may accompany the streams?

Thanks

Re: No Skin Folder

I do not have a skins folder in vlc, i.e.
~/.local/share/vlc/skins2

Should I make skins2?

Or, should I create a skins resource file, presumably a folder, in the home directory?

or both

vlc and PPA

I have installed vlc using a PPA.

The player seems essentially black with white lettering.

The are no credits, licence, or author information and no reference to version.

Does this sound correct

The player works well, as far as I can tell

Re: PPA For VLC

It would be easier to simply install the latest version.
