Hi Sorb They did actually open the ticket and then marked it as fixed/closed so that's progress, and put it as part of the 2.2 Bugs? Again I am not sure how their ticket and VLC version releases work, but on their roadmap it list 2.2 as coming out in 4 months, so does that mean this fix wont be out ...

You dont need the 64bit version, the 32bit will work just fine on Windows 7 64bit.
Just download the main installer off the front VLC page or find it here http://get.videolan.org/vlc/2.1.0/win32 ... -win32.exe
I am running VLC 32bit on Windows 8.1 64bit and it works great.

Yes I do see the "Use S/PDIF when available" option when I select "All" settings even with out directX selected as the output format, however it still doesnt work, I pick the optical output I have going to my amp and play the video I only get PCM audio.

I want to second this, DTS output over SPDIF to my AMP worked fine in 2.0.8 upgraded to 2.1.0 and the option is gone and all I get is PCM audio. I even set it to DirectX output and "use SPDIF when available" and it still doesn't work. I uninstalled 2.1.0 and back to 2.0.8 and it works just...
