Re: VLC player icon

Assuming you're on windows, you can change the icon to anything you like. Right click on the shortcut and click the button that says "Change icon". You can browse executable files or ico files and the icon on your desktop will change to match. When you run VLC with that icon, that's the ic...

Re: Dell posts a warning to users using VLC

I imagine Celine Dion has compression, so would not really be any different from Metallica. Classical music would not have compression. But theoretically, any waveform with a non-zero amplitude could be made to clip. I saw some funny comments on some speakers on Amazon where one of the questions was...

Skin resizing

Is there really no resizeN, resizeNW, and resizeW? Seems odd. A few times, the VLC window has become bigger than my screen and I only have to top left corner to work with.

Re: Skin packaging script and extraction script

Added extraction script (in first post)

I tried gzip using the stable version of 7zip, just to give it a whirl, but VLC still didn't like the result.

Re: Dell posts a warning to users using VLC

Part of my job involves working with loudspeakers and design of their amplifiers (ok, it's actually just a small part of my job). Overdriving these speakers doesn't usually cause them to fail right away, but they do fail sometime during the 72 hour endurance test I run.

Re: Skin packaging script

Hmm... so VLC would handle filenames in zip files differently from gzip? I went through and made sure all the files were lowercase in both the filesystem and the theme.xml file, so they ought to be consistent now (this skin was originally written by someone else). Here's what I've tried... * gzip cr...

Skin packaging script and extraction script

After doing the same commands over and over, packaging and testing a skin gets very tedious. Here's a script that makes it less so (for Windows). The vlt file is actually in zip format here instead of the (usual?) .tar.gz. VLC doesn't seem to like the flavor of tar/gzip I've been able to generate fr...

Re: Dell posts a warning to users using VLC

I"m not sure how VLC internally handles gain based on the volume setting, but I have noticed that setting the volume in VLC above 100% sometimes causes distortion. It depends on levels in the source and also sometimes how different hardware devices handle gain. Of course, some sources already h...

Re: Expanding slider

xoffset is not an element of the <Image> tag. It can only be passed via a <Panel> tag. :bonks head: Anyway, here is an example of a slider that spans the whole screen dynamically (whatever the screen resolution). It was extracted from a skin that was posted a while ago on this forum. http://www.mir...

Re: Expanding slider

I managed to get centering working yesterday by enclosing image tags in panels, which is a bit cumbersome. I didn't have time to post it. So if I understand correctly, the second method in my most recent previous post (which uses x,y attributes only) doesn't work because x,y attributes they don't ad...

Re: Expanding slider

I see now the slider background is not actually a visible image, but defines the relation of each stop of the slider position to a value of its output variable. The problem is the visible image. So I need to figure out how to split and stretch the image behind the slider. I also need to figure out h...

Ok, that's awesome.
Now the trouble is the background isn't stretching to fill the slider width. I tried the same technique, and putting in some padding values... to no avail.

Expanding slider

I'm having trouble figuring out how to get the video slider to expand to fill the screen for the full screen mode of a skin. According to the docs (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/skins2-create.html), I am thinking lefttop and rightbottom as below should cause it to expand horizontally. What am I missin...

Re: Playlist tree?

I uninstalled/reinstalled, during which I selected the option to clear my settings and cache. The playlist tree is displayed now. Maybe clearing the cache is what I needed to do in order to fix the original issue. Notes: UNticking the option to show playlist tree doesn't change anything.... i think ...

Re: Playlist tree?

Thanks for the reply. That option was what I was playing with earlier. Even resetting my settings and just ticking that one option doesn't fix it. I've tried 2.0.8, 2.1.1, and 2.2 (nightly from a week or so ago). I also tried copying the preferences file from my wife's computer (where it works) to m...

Re: Log playlist automatically

I wrote one very similar to this, but instead of logging every played file, it only logs it when you press a hotkey (well, adds it to a playlist file). Basically, you load up a bunch of videos and then hit the hotkey for each one that's "interesting" for later editing and then end up with ...

Re: Script to delete current playing file in Windows

seems like i remember something about the playlist or meta scripts being run automatically when VLC changes input. Perhaps this could be more automatic by having the deletion part made into one of these other types of scripts and also check for the batch file, so deletion occurs on either next activ...

Re: How to use a dialog in an interface?

Thanks for the info. It gives me some more things to try out. However, lua scripts don't seem to be working at all on 2.1 for me. It seems that checking for a startup folder and activating any scripts in it would be pretty easy. I spent about 15 minutes trying to find the function that looks for the...

Re: Hotkey

As far as I've been able to figure out, you can only do hotkeys in interface type of lua script. You can find an example of hotkeys in the 2.0.8 source code at /share/lua/intf/hotkeys.lua. Or you can decomile the hotkeys.luac in a VLC installation. I noticed that the VLC 2.1 source does NOT have the...

How to use a dialog in an interface?

I'm trying to write a script that shows a dialog with a text box to get some input from the user. The examples I've found don't seem to work and they are all either in http or extension, not interface. Am I doing something wrong? The error I get is "attempt to call field 'dialog' (a nil value)&...
