I'm finding that when I save audio from a video file, that it gets saved as a .txt file instead of an .mp3 file. I can correct this by simply changing the suffix, but I'm wondering if this is a bug, or I'm missing something.

Yes, this happens for me, too. Unfortunately, I needed this function tonight! I guess I'll have to find a different app.

I have looked several times through VLC menus and preferences and I am not seeing an option for toggling a small control icon button in the Finder menu bar; does this exist, and where might I find it? I'll be pretty surprised if I've missed it and if it doesn't exist, either way!

This really does cure the problem. I switched to Vancouver, and then had to clear my Settings and VLC apps from multitasking bar, and voila!
