I went ahead and tried, and StartSSL won't take a homeip.net subdomain, they have to be second level domains only, so that's no good either.

So I tried to download a file through https using VLC, and got a Download failed popup saying that the certificate for the server is invalid. There is no option to accept the certificate or to ignore the error, the only button is Cancel. I really don't want to have to buy a certificate from another ...
