I just looked at the latest script. I run linux, opensuse and put the scripts in my local extensions folder. I can add one other that may help http://www.videolan.org/developers/vlc/share/lua/playlist/ There are other aspects around the same directory. None of them will run on 2.08 VLC linux though but...
