+1 i agree it is annoying. i don't recall 2.2.8 behaving this way.

also, if you command+` to switch between the playlist window and video window, the fullscreen controller disappears in the video window until you exit and re-enter fullscreen again.

@dfuhrmann, ok i accept that we don't need this to be a configurable option. but is there is a reason why the threshold has to be so high? instead of 5%, could it be more like 1%, or a fixed value like 30 seconds after the beginning or before the of the total runtime?

the threshold for remembering appears to be between 5% and 95% of the duration. so for a 60 minute video, if i stop playback before the 3 minute mark or after the 57 minute mark, it forgets the position. is there any way for the user to customize this setting? looks like it will mount in sierra (10.12), but not in el capitan (10.11).

quicktime x likely utilizes frameworks or private APIs to access the gpu hardware directly. if the stuttering is happening with other media players, then it's probably not an issue specific to vlc. the fact that it happens every 15 seconds also seems like it's a system issue, not vlc. i'm still curi...

i have no issues playing Xvid+Mp3 avi. maybe your file is corrupt?

vlc 3.0.4 nightlies from 7/19 - 7/22 are not mountable. reason says no mountable file systems.

bluetortilla, might be a codec issue. what is the avi video codec?

i think most monitors run at 60 Hz. the framerate of the video file shouldn't really matter. not sure what you're seeing exactly.

there's probably an easier way to do what you want using a dedicated audio editing app (e.g fission by rogue amoeba).
some video transcoding apps (e.g. ffWorks) also let you merge multiple files together.

what is your mac's gpu?

did you try disabling hardware acceleration (preferences -> input/codecs)?

it may have something to do with the subtitle file's character encoding. the english subtitle file is probably encoded in UTF-8, but the default encoding might be set to something else in vlc. (you can identify/change what the encoding is by opening the subtitle file in a text editor like bbedit or ...

to hide the playlist: Window -> Playlist

also under video preferences, uncheck "Show video within the main window" and check "Window decorations". then the playhead will always be seen at the bottom of the video.

if i change the stereo audio mode during playback, the audio starts playing about 2 seconds early out of sync with the video. v3.0.4

not sure if this is a bug or expected behavior, but i noticed when a folder is added to the media library, if you quit and restart vlc, it appears at the top of the media library instead of it's placed position in the list. i don't recall this happening in v2.

i think the OP is in the wrong forum. sounds like he's referring to a p2p app called transmission.

mp3axe, you don't have to mux the subtitle file into the mp4. vlc can read external .srt files. just make sure the filename matches the mp4 filename. e.g. The_Avengers.mp4 and The_Avengers.en.srt.

just curious, can you explain what the fix was to resolve this issue? or point me to the bug tracker issue so i know what to do in the future if a similar bug appears again. you don't have to, but i was just wondering what was patched. also want to remind everyone affected by this issue to donate if...

don't know what you fixed, but this build does not crash. also it no longer stutters when OSD controller is displayed. so this build killed two bugs for me. i'll continue testing, but so far looking good. nice job and thank you!

the question is why does v3.0 crash while v2.2.x plays perfectly fine. it may be the opengl driver crashing, but it's vlc 3.0 that's triggering the crash, while v2.2 and other media players like IINA, Movist, mplayer, etc. don't crash. i still think there is a bug in the vlc 3 code triggering this (...

3.0.3 doesn't show any crash dialog for me. but earlier in this thread i posted some links to crash logs from previous nightly build. don't know if that's the same thing as stacktrace.
