I have no problems with portable VLC 2.0.7 64 bit on my Windows 7 64 bit. Plays every video file. It even supports vlsub extension.
I never touch Microsoft's media formats.

Try the free Handbrake application.

This is an interesting use case I didn't think of. What are your external screen's physical pixel dimensions? 1024*768? something else?

The Pioneer AVH-X8850BT is 6.95" 16:9 , WVGA (800×480)

Recently I added the vlsub extension ( https://github.com/exebetche/vlsub/ ) to my portable VLC 2.0.7 in \lua\extensions folder.
VLC doesn't load the extension.
Any solution ?
