Here is a solution for the 16:9 bug: Open the preferences, and go to the settings tab. In "video cropping" put 16:9. Restart VLC. Now 16:9 will appear twice in the crop menu. One will crop correctly and one will crop incorrectly. It should be obvious which is which, but on mine the correct...
