Under Relative font size you have it as Large, does changing it to Normal help smoothing it out?

Assuming your subtitles don't have any special layout, color or effects, does unchecking Formatted Subtitles help?

I'm guessing his situation is closed to what I had before? I managed to get my Chinese SSA subtitles working by going to Settings -> Preferences -> Video -> Subtitles/OSD -> Text renderer and manually type C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\ARIALUNI.TTF into the Font textbox, and it worked even when I left Subtitles ...

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried mplayer, mpc and zoom, none of them can play that mkv, so that file's busted. I guess I'll have to go find a way to extract from that mkv instead.

I'm trying to play a mkv file but all I see is the slide bar moving quickly from start to finish and nothing else. If there's no special formatting in the subtitles, I find that unchecking Formatted Subtitles can sometimes help produce clearer subtitle display ... Hope that helps ...

Maybe it's something to do with the SSA file as well? If I open the SSA file using Notepad, the Chinese and Japanese characters load correctly without the need to run any other programs ... I've uploaded one of the SSA files if it'll help in the troubleshooting:

Yeah, I have trouble selecting those font files too. I have to type out C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\ARIALUNI.TTF by hand. I think that there's something wierd with the fonts folder itself, because I can select files in any other place but not in the fonts folder ... Wierd thing too, that there's nothing checke...
