It got worse after activating GPU decoding. There is sound but no image and after a while the image comes freezing and choppy.

Maybe try activating hardware decoding.
VLC version?

Video setting-> Accelerated Video Output (Overlay) is activated.

Blu ray play back is jerky.

OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
CPU: IntelCore2Duo 2.00GHz
RAM: 3GB
ATI Radeon HD 3400

Is there any settings in VLC to fix the jerky play back of blu rays?
