I have found it more assured to specify all the relevant parameters vs. relying on defaults and prefs, because it can be impossible to have prefs meeting all of your use cases. Either this is a self-help forum, or everybody else realizes VLC v2.x.x does not really work on W7 x64 boxes, eh?
