My video driver is up to date. I guessing there isn't a problem with the HDMI, because 16:9 it works smoothly on both screens, with the same files, when using MPC. I wish it was as simple as an outdated driver...

I have an ECS G43T-DM1 HDMI mATX motherboard. Disabling subtitles or audio did not improve. Also, in that file in particular, it takes a very long time to make jumps in the video. Thank you for the tip. I tried to check dummy elements and force ffmpeg threads to 1, respectively, and restart vlc after each change, but still no effect. Mkv files still play sluggishly as if the system is overloaded. I start to feel like I'm a lost cause. My problem might be special and unfixable...
