Re: VLC 0.8.6 and SPDiF passthrough

http://www.ac3filter.net might be a good source for information and code. It's a set of open source DirectShow filters and WinAmp plug-in, and they have excellent support for S/PDIF! Windows, yes, but I believe it may give some ideas about output stream formats ect., including support for USB cards ...

Re: VLC 0.8.6 and SPDiF passthrough

In the timeline I see no a corresponding fix in the current sources :( Is there a chance it will be fixed in a nearest future?

I'd make some tests with my setup, but I don't think I can go through source patching/rebuilding...

goonmaster: I can't understand what it does, but it works! Also I wonder how did it install the latest 0.8.6a while there is no such a version in the mirrors listed on this site!

It must be made sticky!

AC3Filter is a Direct Show codec and VLC is not a Direct Show player and will NOT use AC3Filter. I ask developers to take AC3Filter source code and implement a similar way in the VLC. It is highly recommended to UpDate your sound drivers as this kind of problem is just bad design for cheep sound ca...

No, it won't help. But if developers incorporate its code into VLC, it would. At least for my hardware it will be much better. That's why I addressed that message to the developers.

Should i install one or windows xp did it?

If i must install one, could you help me to find the right filter?
I can't say that you should, must or even need to install ACFilter. All in all it has no use to VLC at all. But if you wish, you may find it here: http://ac3filter.net/

See the following options (./configure --help):

--enable-shared-libvlc
--disable-plugins
--enable-mostly-builtin

By default they are in good states which do not prevent building. However, the release version is built with --enable-shared-libvlc.

I did with version 0.8.5. No problems, if you don't try to put the engine into a DLL, or to static link with all the modules and plugins.

Check the size of your downloaded file and compare it with the original size. I noticed many times with MS IE that it unpacks .gz and bz2 files during downloading. If it is the case with you, try

tar xvt ...

command line, i.e. like it is just tar.

Thanks for the answer! Now I understand why DLLs from different builds can't be mixed. By the way, in particular, it can be because cygwin appends .exe extension to all the DLLs. Though MAKEFILEs take care of it by removing it, it does not solve the problem with this odd extensions. In particular, i...

Compiled from sources, does not work as the official build

I've downloaded 0.8.5 sources, set up cygwin environment per instruction on the developers site, compiled... "Show interface with mouse" works OK with the official build, and does not work with mine. If I replace a plug-in DLL in the official build with compiled by myself, VLC crashes. Wha...

I don't care about "crop" option, I say only about "crop-geometry", from the "crop" video filter. For me it is far more convenient to crop distorted parts of the streaming video using crop-geometry, and then, using RC, choose from aspect ration-like crop parameters e.g....

OK, not exactly as expected: it looks for the new parameters only if a new window is created for video. If a new stream can be played in the existing window, it does not work...

All in all I'm not a developer. I hope a developer knows the internals better.

It looks like quite easy change. In the modules/crop.c, function Init(), instead of: /* Shall we use autocrop ? */ p_vout->p_sys->b_autocrop = config_GetInt( p_vout, "autocrop" ); /* Get geometry value from the user */ psz_var = config_GetPsz( p_vout, "crop-geometry" ); I wrote /...
