Re: Join VideoLan Wiki -- How do I do it?

Here's an example of my questions: Are 480i30 DVDs mastered with 2-3 pull-down in the samples (prior to MPEG-2 encoding), or does the player always have to perform the 2-3 pull-down on the decoded sample set? Certainly the 2 pull-down fields are redundant information that would make the pre-code sam...

Re: Join VideoLan Wiki -- How do I do it?

Well, if you and others would want to work on it collaboratively, I can understand why a collaborative tool like git would help, but I didn't anticipate that anyone else would want to work on it. I have graphically diagrammed, for example, how 480i30-DVDs (mastered interlaced & 2-3 pull-down) ap...

Re: Join VideoLan Wiki -- How do I do it?

I don't know. By "repository" I assume you mean a git account and some sort of place to put documentation. I'm not keen on git. Do you have any other suggestion?

PS: How about a forum for discussion ...sort of like is done in the AVS forum?

Re: Join VideoLan Wiki -- How do I do it?

Howdy unidan. I'd like to generate/contribute high quality documentation of a type that's currently not available anywhere that I've found. It would document video formatting and processing at a system architecture level, for example, by graphically showing/tracking buffer contents & processing ...

*****when you install one of the player look carefully at the options choose the one that deletes the user preference and cache. Re: VLC will not play DVDs or BDs -- crashes

I had to back off all the way to 'vlc-2.2.8-win64.exe' in order to find a VLC that would play. As in the distant past, VLC's disc menu button doesn't work at all for BDs. For BDs, I have to select titles using the VLC 'Playback' 'Title' menu, but at least it plays without crashing. Curiously, BDs &a...

Re: VLC will not play DVDs or BDs -- crashes

I tried 'vlc-3.0.7.1-win64.exe' 'vlc-3.0.3-win64.exe' 'vlc-3.0.2-win64.exe' in that order. All would install. None would play. All spontaneously closed. All would try to play a BD, but would not play a DVD at all. None would uninstall via the installer. All had to be forced to uninstall via Control ...

Re: VLC will not play DVDs or BDs -- crashes

I have not backed off versions yet. I went to the web site and discovered that unless you choose otherwise, it downloads the 32-bit build. A 32-bit video application will not work in my system. I updated the last few times via the automatic updater. I wonder if it updated VLC to a 32-bit build? My c...

Re: VLC will not play DVDs or BDs -- crashes

Try using another platform like kodi to see if it is causing it to also crash I had to download it to see if it was a vLC issue or if it was a windows issue. or other issue. The only other platform I have is PowerDVD. It plays everything just fine. Is it a specific title that is causing it? All tit...

Re: VLC will not play DVDs or BDs -- crashes

Thank you for version 3.0.7, Here is my experience with it. I launched VLC, reset to default settings, and restarted Windows 10 (v.1803). The first time I played a decrypted BD, it played, but VLC spontaneously closed as soon as I clicked the next index [=>] button. I launched VLC again and tried cl...

VLC will not play DVDs or BDs -- crashes

Windows 10. VLC 3.0.6 Computer: 3.2 GHz, 64GB ACER Predator with Optimus GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M PDVD would not play a BD. VLC played BDs & DVDs, but poorly -- would sometimes crash. I reinstalled my video drivers (details withheld for brevity; all went fine). PDVD now plays everything. VLC...

Re: Frozen video

This is frustrating. Since I started this thread... I closed VLC, then closed my Linux Virtual Machine. Then I launched VLC (without the VM running) and aside from taking almost a second to begin playing following a movie index forward or back (during which time there's broken video), VLC plays fine...

How does VLC make 720x480 snapshots?

I have a nerdy question that may be of interest to other video nerds. I've made many, many video frame captures in order to determine raw frame size & aspect ratio of film telecines. Imagine a DVD (made from a film telecine) having a non-black, video frame image that is not full 720x480 either h...

Re: Index popup displayed during ordinary play

You mean a full thumbnail? If so, we fixed that for next release of libbluray. Hi JB. I'm not sure to what "full thumbnail" refers. The thumbnail in this case is coming from the disc, not VLC. It's the same thumbnail and index bar that is displayed by blu-ray discs when you select "S...

Index popup displayed during ordinary play

New symptom for a disc played many times before. During ordinary playback (not index jumping), when an index point is met, an index thumbnail with a horizontal time scale is displayed in the middle of the screen for about 5 seconds. I tried hitting VLC with 2 blunt instruments, 1: Settings to defaul...
