I had the same issue. As a temporary workaround, you could try changing the audio output module settings in VLC. Go to 'Preferences' > 'Audio' and experiment with different settings in the 'Output' dropdown menu. It worked for me.

I use a pro audio interface for outputting 5.1 to powered monitors so I'm unable to reallocate excess LF to the appropriate drivers
